The Sims 4 Lore

The Sims 4 Interconnected Timelines

The Sims 4 computer game is considered a prequel to the earlier Sims games (The Sims 1, 2, and 3), existing in an alternate timeline where many characters are younger or in different life stages compared to their appearances in other games.

The Sims 4 is set in an alternate timeline where many characters are younger or in different stages of life compared to their appearances in other games. This timeline offers glimpses into the past of iconic families and characters, providing a fresh perspective on their stories.

Theories suggest that the different Sims games exist in parallel universes, with characters and events influencing each other across dimensions. This multiverse theory is supported by the recurring presence of aliens and supernatural beings who seem to traverse these dimensions.

Reoccurring Themes and Mysteries such as alien abduction, supernatural phenomena, and ancient conspiracies occur across the series, suggesting a deeper, underlying narrative that connects all the games. The presence of the Goths, Landgraabs, and Calientes in various forms across the games indicates a continuous thread of mystery and intrigue.

Iconic Families and Characters

Certain families recur throughout the series, providing a sense of continuity and depth to The Sims 4:

  • The Goth Family: Perhaps the most iconic family, the Goths have a history of wealth, mystery, and possible connections to the supernatural. In The Sims 4, Mortimer and Bella are still young adults, and their children, Cassandra and Alexander, are younger as well. Bella’s mysterious disappearance (a major plot point in The Sims 2) is a reocurring theme

  • The Landgraab Family: Known for their wealth and business influence, the Landgraabs have been a significant presence in every game. In The Sims 4, Geoffrey Landgraab is a secret agent, while his wife, Nancy, is a ruthless businesswoman. Their son, Malcolm, is a mischievous teen.

  • The Caliente Family: Dina and Nina Caliente, along with their mother Katrina, live in Oasis Springs. They have a complex history involving romantic entanglements and possible ties to alien abduction stories.

  • The Pleasant Family: In The Sims 4, the Pleasant sisters, Angela and Lilith, are introduced as teenagers with a strained relationship, which is a precursor to their story in The Sims 2 where they are college students with contrasting personalities.

  • The Behr Sisters: Ulrike and Mila Behr, from Windenburg, have connections to the local art scene and hold secrets about their family's past and ties to the ancient ruins in the town.

Mysterious Locations and Hidden Areas

The Sims 4 is filled with mysterious locations and hidden areas that add depth to the lore.

  • Sylvan Glade: A hidden magical forest in Willow Creek accessible through a special tree. It’s a place of tranquility and mystery, with rare collectibles and a surreal ambiance.

  • Forgotten Grotto: A hidden cave in Oasis Springs that requires max handiness to access. It's a place filled with valuable collectibles and ancient fossils.

  • The Magic Realm: Accessed through Glimmerbrook, this magical dimension is where spellcasters gather. It’s governed by powerful sages who have a complex history and hierarchy.

  • Sixam: An alien world that can be accessed via a wormhole generator. It is home to aliens and offers rare and futuristic collectibles, hinting at a broader universe beyond the earthbound Sims’ neighborhoods.

  • The Mother Plant in Strangerville: Central to the Strangerville storyline, this plant controls the minds of the town's residents and is linked to a hidden conspiracy involving secret experiments and alien influences.

Occult and Supernatural Elements

The Sims 4 features various supernatural and occult elements:

  • Vampires: Forgotten Hollow is home to vampires, with their own culture, abilities, and feuds. Vladislaus Straud, a powerful and ancient vampire, serves as a key figure in vampire lore.

  • Spellcasters: Introduced in the Realm of Magic, spellcasters have their own world, culture, and hierarchies, including a legacy of powerful magic users and ancient traditions.

  • Mermaids: In the Island Living expansion, mermaids live in Sulani and have their own abilities and interactions with the ocean and its spirits.

  • Aliens: They play a significant role in the game, especially in Strangerville and Sixam. Aliens have their own culture and interactions with humans, often involving abduction and secret experiments.

Cultural and Historical Contexts

The Sims 4 integrates various cultural and historical contexts, enriching the game’s lore.

  • Sulani’s Island Culture: Reflects a blend of Polynesian culture and traditions, with a strong connection to nature and local legends involving the island spirits and volcanic activity.

  • Mt. Komorebi’s Japanese Influence: Features a mix of traditional and modern Japanese culture, including festivals, hot springs, and local legends.

  • Windenburg’s European History: Incorporates elements of medieval and modern European culture, with its ancient ruins and traditional architecture hinting at a long and storied past.

Cross-Game Connections

The Sims 4 connects to previous games in subtle ways, including:

  • Bella Goth’s Disappearance: A reoccurring mystery in the series, with hints that she may have been abducted by aliens.

  • The Landgraabs: Their influence and history span across all the games, from their business empire to their family dynamics.

  • The Calientes: Their mysterious past and connections to alien abductions recur across different Sims games.
